# How Hamelyn's purchase price works

Hamelyn buys used books, movies, video games and music with an instant offer: scanning an item's ISBN or barcode immediately returns the price Hamelyn pays for it. There is no negotiation, there are no hidden fees, and shipping or home pickup is free.

## Instant offer by barcode

Every item is identified by its ISBN or barcode. That unique identifier allows the item to be valued precisely and quickly: the price is calculated automatically and transparently at scan time, before anything is shipped.

## What the price depends on

The price is set by a proprietary algorithm that crosses stock, rotation and real second-hand market demand data. That is why two seemingly similar items can receive different offers, and why some very low-rotation categories (encyclopedias and dictionaries) are not accepted and outdated textbooks are usually declined.

## Verification and payment

Once the offer is accepted and the batch arrives at the warehouse, the quality team checks that the items meet the minimum condition criteria: well preserved, no underlining, tears or missing pages, and a readable barcode. After that verification, payment is processed automatically — immediately via PayPal, or within 24-48 business hours via bank transfer — with email notifications throughout the process.
